U.S. Families

I can relate to this chapter about diversity in U.S. families because my neighborhood that I live in is also very diverse. On my block alone there are African-Americans, Latinos, people from India, and Native Americans. The deli at the corner on my street is run by a family from Pakistan, and down the road there's a smoke shop owned by a Native-American family, so we have quite a little melting pot here in my hometown of Mastic. I like being around all different cultures because it makes me more aware of other peoples cultures and way of life.

Comparing and Contrasting: Korn & Less Than Jake

I’m comparing and contrasting my two favorite music groups; Korn and Less Than Jake. Both bands ironically started in 1993, they at least have one member or more with dreadlocks, and despite losing member along the way they are still going strong till this day by still making records and selling out shows where ever they play. Yet, these two groups are way different than each other in many ways. Korn is a metal band from Bakersfield, California. That has put out eight albums, which altogether has sold over 30 million records worldwide. The biggest crowd they played in front of was 70,000 people during “The Woodstock” 30th anniversary show back in 1999. On the other hand, from Gainesville, Florida. Less Than Jake is a Ska/punk band that’s had very little commercial success but they never had to rely on that because they’re one of the biggest bands in the underground scene and when they go on tour they usually sellout the 1,500-2,000 people capacity venues. The band that has horns mixed with fast punk rock music “Less Than Jake” and multi-platinum, Grammy award winning metal band “Korn” did a tour together to bring all types of rock music together, in the summer of 2004.
I do not love one, more than the other because they are different in their own way even though they have some similarities.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflections

A personal reflection I think about often is about my group of friends I chilled with the passed 3 years. So many good times playing shows with my old bands, going on the train to the city to see our favorite bands live, going to the beach or parties. I reflect on how fast it went and now we are all off in different places. One friend is at Harvard, one is at Yale, three are attending Boston University, two are at Paris Island serving in the United States Marine Corp. And a few others at local colleges. Time goes so fast and even though we are all off in different directions we are still connected and still friends. I’ve already made two trips up to Boston in the passed six weeks.

Beautiful Laughing Sisters

Before reading this article I wondered what this story was about "The Beautiful Laughing Sisters - an arrival story"? I read the whole thing and found it quite interesting. It was about two sisters from the middle east and their long, hard, and tiring journey to America. After reading this story I've come to realize that I have it really good here being born/living in the U.S.

"Couple alive after car pins them to bed for almost an hour"

On October 21st, in Sparka, Nevada a drunk driver slammed his car through a house and land on two college students asleep in their bed. They were pinned under the car for 42 minutes till emergency workers could free them. It was a horrible experiences but both Kristin and Trent are happy to be alive and are still here for a purpose. The drunk driver, Eric Cross was charged with battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle. Good grief.

Eye Communication

Before I read this "Eye Communication" article, I wasn't too sure what to expect by just reading the headline? I grazed over the article real quick to see what they were talking about. After reading the article, I realized eye communication really tells a lot about somebody or gives a certain perception. From now on I will be more aware of what someone is trying to communicate to me through their eyes. Wether it be that their intrested, afraid, nervous or even lying. On the other hand I'll be more aware of my own eye contact to other people when their talking to me or walking past me.

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to Host 2016 Olympics

Before I read this fine article about Brazil being awarded the 2016 summer games, I knew that Brazil would be hosting the FIFA (Soccer) World Cup in 2014, which is only two years before the most precious global sporting event, the Summer Olympics. With that being said, I personally thought that they wouldn’t win the bid from the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) for the Olympics, due to the FIFA World Cup being played in 2014. That would make Brazil the host of 2 Major Sporting Events in two years, which seemed unfair to Chicago, Spain, and Japan that were bidding for the 2016 summer games. I found out after reading this, that Brazil and South America in general has never hosted the Olympic games ever. I don’t feel as bad for these other cities/countries that lost the bid, because I know they‘ve hosted Olympic Games before. For instance, would it be fair to give it to a continent that has hosted Summer and Winter Olympics many of times compared to a continent that’s never seen an Olympic Event take place in one of its countries? 2016 Summer Olympics start August 5th through the 21st. I’ll defiantly be watching this great event on T.V. when the worlds best athletes compete for the “Gold” in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I’m really pumped for this and I’m not to sure why? I think Brazil is going to be a wonderful place to be in 5-7 years from now.
